Samsung Austin Semiconductor L.L.C.. is the location of two advanced semiconductor fabrication plants. Samsung Austin produces Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) chips - most commonly used in personal computers, workstations, servers - and with its new 300mm fab, it will begin producing advanced 16Gb flash memory in the coming year.
The US-chartered company is owned by Samsung Electronics, the giant $60-billion Korean high tech company, and is Samsung’s only semiconductor manufacturing facility outside of Korea.

In June 2007, Samsung Electronics opened its new 300mm fabrication line adjacent to the existing 200mm plant in northeast Austin. This new fab will bring greater cost competitiveness to Samsung Austin Semiconductor.

The size of nine football fields, the 300mm fab is the largest fab of its kind in the U.S. This new facility will be capable of producing the latest in NAND flash chips using design technology in the 50 nanometer range.
